India poll results 2024: Modi falls short of majority as opposition holds out

Indian Opposition Leader Explains Why Voters are Unhappy with Modi

Opposition leader Sanjay Singh sheds light on the discontent among voters with Narendra Modi following a closely contested election that saw Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) fall short of an outright majority.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by the BJP secured 293 seats, just above the 272 required to form a government. However, the opposition INDIA alliance, led by Rahul Gandhi’s Congress party, gained 230 seats, showcasing unexpected success.

Singh highlights the voter’s prioritization of social justice, secularism, and federalism as key values, resonating with the Constitution. He mentions that Modi’s divisive tactics and hate speeches targeting Muslims did not sit well with the electorate.

With Modi now reliant on key allies like Nitish Kumar and Chandrababu Naidu, the formation of the next government hinges on their support, making them the new kingmakers.
