HRW report exposes white phosphorus use

In a recent report, Human Rights Watch revealed that “Israel” used white phosphorus incendiary shells on residential buildings in several towns and villages in south Lebanon, potentially violating international law. The use of white phosphorus has led to respiratory damage in some Lebanese citizens, with at least 173 people requiring medical assistance.

The report includes interviews with affected individuals and confirms the locations where white phosphorus was used on residential buildings along the Lebanese border. Human Rights Watch has called on the Lebanese government to allow the International Criminal Court to investigate and prosecute these concerning actions since October 2023.

Researcher Ramzi Kaiss emphasized the urgency for other countries to take action in response to Israel’s use of white phosphorus in Lebanon. The call for accountability echoes the need for justice and protection of human rights in the region.
