The Federal High Court in Lagos has granted the Federal Government an interim forfeiture order on properties worth N11.14 billion linked to former CBN governor Godwin Emefiele. The EFCC suspects Emefiele of purchasing high-end properties in Abuja through fraudulent means, with the help of former and current CBN staff members.
Justice Chukwujekwu Aneke also directed the EFCC to publish the order in ThisDay newspaper for interested parties to contest. The final forfeiture motion will be heard on June 21. This comes after a previous order to forfeit $1.4 million linked to Emefiele.
The court proceedings stem from ongoing criminal trials against Emefiele. The EFCC, represented by Rotimi Oyedepo and Bilikisu Buhari-Bala, continues to investigate the former CBN governor’s alleged illicit activities.
With the legal battle ongoing, the spotlight remains on the high-profile case and the efforts to uncover financial misconduct at the highest levels of government.
