Consumer Reports recently released findings that some veggie puffs made by Lesser Evil and Serenity Kids contain concerning levels of lead, a heavy metal that can lead to developmental disabilities in children. The study emphasized the need for parents to be cautious about the snacks they offer their kids.
Lead levels in products like Lesser Evil’s Lil’ Puffs Intergalactic Voyager Veggie Blend puffs were found to exceed those in 80 other baby foods tested, according to Consumer Reports. The advocacy group recommends limiting consumption to less than half a serving per day for this product.
Additionally, Serenity Kids’ Tomato & Herb Bone Broth puffs were also flagged for high lead levels, prompting a recommendation of no more than 1.5 servings per day. However, some brands, like Once Upon a Farm, had low lead levels and utilized sorghum, a less risky alternative.
The revelation serves as a reminder for parents to be vigilant about the products they offer their children, as even small amounts of lead can accumulate over time and lead to severe health issues. It also underscores the importance of manufacturers in ensuring the safety of their products.
