Ukraine announces Italy to supply additional air defence battery

Italy has agreed to supply Ukraine with another air defence system to help fend off Russian aerial assaults, following a request from Ukrainian officials. President Volodymyr Zelensky urgently called for at least seven more systems, including two specifically for the eastern Kharkiv region, which is under threat from recent Russian ground offensives.

Andriy Yermak, head of the Ukrainian president’s office, announced on social media that Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani confirmed the supply of a second SAMP/T air defence system to Ukraine. The Italian government source later confirmed this announcement.

Meanwhile, regional Ukrainian officials reported eight people wounded in Russian attacks in the Dnipropetrovsk and Kharkiv regions. The head of the southern Kherson region also stated that Russian artillery fire had tragically killed an elderly woman in her yard.

In response to Russia’s recent missile and drone barrage targeting power plants, Ukraine warned of extended power outages. The Kremlin claims to only target military infrastructure and argues that Western weapons supply will not alter the conflict’s outcome.
