Two Finnish Ministries led by Finns Party lawmakers will not be participating in Helsinki Pride 2024. The Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Transport and Communications have both decided not to include any activities related to Pride in their official functions, according to a report by YLE.

Both ministries have taken a stand against the event, with the Ministry of Justice stating that they will not be participating or promoting the event in any way. The Ministry of Transport and Communications has also forbidden its staff from attending the event during work hours.

Helsinki Pride Executive Director Annu Kemppainen expressed disappointment at the lack of support from the ministries, while acknowledging the event’s significance in promoting the rights and well-being of gender and sexual minorities.

Despite this, some government ministers have confirmed their attendance at Helsinki Pride, sending a message of acceptance and support to the rainbow community. The event will be celebrated throughout June, culminating in Helsinki Pride Week from 24-30 June.

The event has embraced political entities committed to working against conversion therapies, including the Finnish Centre Youth and National Coalition in Helsinki, fostering a more inclusive environment for all.

Let’s continue to support and celebrate diversity in all its forms!
