Suspected cash-in-transit robber shot dead by KZN cops in Phoenix Highway

A suspected robber was killed in a shootout between police and cash-in-transit robbers on Phoenix Highway, in KwaZulu-Natal, during the early hours of Tuesday. Police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said three rifles and a large amount of money were recovered. “Police are still hunting more suspects in the vicinity,” he added.

VIP Medical and Rescue CEO Gareth Naidoo said they received reports of shots fired in the vicinity of the Trade Centre junction traffic lights in Mount Edgecombe. “Our vehicles were dispatched. Security vehicles, armed response vehicles were dispatched. But on arrival, they were told by the police very rudely to stay away from the scene,” Naidoo said.

He added that the gunshots could be heard clearly. Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, is making his way to the crime scene.
