Strike to continue until NLC review meeting on Tuesday

The Nigeria Labour Congress has revealed that the ongoing nationwide strike will persist despite the agreement reached with the Federal Government at Monday’s meeting. The strike, which has significantly impacted the nation’s economy, will continue until the union’s organs review all resolutions made at the meeting on Tuesday.

During a six-hour meeting in Abuja, the Federal Government assured the commitment of President Bola Tinubu towards raising the minimum wage to more than N60,000. The new agreement includes daily meetings of the Tripartite Committee to finalize a higher National Minimum Wage.

Organised labour agreed to discuss the new offer at their organs’ meetings and ensured that no worker would face consequences for participating in the strike. The agreement was signed by government representatives including the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, and Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Hon. Nkeiruka Onyejeocha.

Representing the labour were NLC President Joe Ajaero and TUC President Festus Osifo. The strike will continue until further directives from the union’s meeting.
