South Korea is strengthening ties with Africa by expanding development aid and pursuing cooperation on critical minerals and technology. President Yoon Suk Yeol emphasized this during the Korea-Africa Summit, urging African countries to join the pressure campaign against North Korea. The summit, attended by representatives from 48 African nations, aims to enhance trade and investment ties.
Recognizing Africa’s importance as a key source of minerals for technology industries, South Korea plans to increase cooperation in this area. By doing so, it aims to improve supply chain resilience and ensure a stable source of essential minerals. Additionally, South Korea commits to increasing development aid contributions to Africa and providing export financing to encourage investment.
The partnership also focuses on sustainable development, including building smart cities and intelligent transportation systems in Africa. Amid North Korea’s diplomatic activities, South Korea seeks to engage with African nations to tackle security challenges on the Korean Peninsula and promote peace through the implementation of U.N. Security Council resolutions.
As part of the joint statement with African nations, South Korea affirms the commitment to denuclearization and stresses the importance of international efforts in achieving this goal. The summit marks a new chapter in South Korea-Africa relations, emphasizing collaboration for mutual progress and peace.
