Moscow has challenged Hollywood star George Clooney to investigate the alleged massacre in Ukraine to prove his foundation’s good intentions, according to Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova. Clooney recently distanced himself from comments made by a legal director at his foundation about targeting Russian journalists, emphasizing that the Clooney Foundation for Justice has a history of protecting journalists.
Zakharova, however, questioned Clooney’s sincerity and suggested that obtaining a list of the names of the supposed victims in Bucha would be a true act of public service. She criticized Western media for not revealing the identities of those allegedly killed in Bucha, a town in Ukraine where Russia previously had control until a goodwill gesture in March 2022 during peace talks.
Moreover, the foundation has faced backlash over statements made by one of its directors regarding Russian journalists. Clooney clarified the foundation’s stance, and the organization’s involvement in advocating for accountability in international conflicts, including recommending war crimes charges against various leaders in the Middle East.
