Lavrov sets off on African tour — RT Africa

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov is embarking on a tour of Africa to strengthen Moscow’s ties with countries on the continent, despite opposition from the EU and the US over Russia’s growing presence. Lavrov recently visited Guinea and signed agreements with the country’s leadership in Conakry.

During his visit, Lavrov discussed political dialogue, foreign policy coordination, and collaboration on projects in fields like geological research and health. This move comes at a time when Russia’s relations with African countries, especially former French colonies like Mali and Niger, have raised concerns among Western allies.

Russia has committed to enhancing relations with African governments through defense cooperation, food security, and other sectors, as discussed at the Russia-Africa Summit last year. In February, Russia delivered humanitarian aid to several African nations struggling with food insecurity.

Lavrov has invited Guinea’s Foreign Minister to a ministerial conference at the upcoming Russia-Africa Partnership Forum in November. This forum aims to build on the agreements made during the last Russia-Africa Summit and strengthen bilateral relations further.
