Iran’s acting foreign minister, Ali Bagheri, revealed that the government is currently engaged in negotiations with the United States, facilitated by Oman. Bagheri emphasized that these discussions have been ongoing and have never ceased, despite the lack of diplomatic relations between the two nations since the 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Recent reports indicate that Bagheri was involved in indirect talks with the United States in Oman earlier this year, amidst heightened tensions in the region due to the Israel-Hamas conflict. The United States, a strong ally of Israel, and Iran, a supporter of Hamas, have conflicting interests in the region.
Bagheri’s visit to Lebanon, following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of Iran’s president and foreign minister, underscores Iran’s support for resistance movements against Israel. Iran’s involvement in Lebanon, specifically backing Hezbollah, has been a focal point of Bagheri’s trip.
Additionally, discussions regarding Iran’s nuclear activities with Western powers are ongoing, with Bagheri urging them to seize the opportunity to address concerns about Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
As tensions mount, European powers are considering censuring Iran for its lack of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency. Bagheri’s upcoming visit to Syria suggests a continued diplomatic engagement in the region.
