The candidates for the 14th presidential election in Iran will be revealed on June 11, according to Mohammad Taghi Shahcheraghi, the head of the Election Headquarters under the Iranian Interior Ministry. A total of 278 individuals applied for candidacy registration within a 5-day window, with 80 successfully making the cut. Now, the Constitutional Review Board will evaluate the credentials of these potential candidates.
The snap presidential election in Iran is scheduled for June 28 and will involve 90,000 polling stations across 60,000 constituencies. Among the registered candidates, there are four women and the remaining are men, including notable figures such as former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and current speaker of the parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf.
To be eligible to run for president in Iran, individuals must have held significant state administrative positions for at least four years and be aged between 40 and 75. In a tragic incident on May 19, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi passed away in a helicopter crash along with several other prominent figures.
