Iran chosen as Chair of an ILC Committee – Political Update

Mahdi Aliabadi, a prominent figure in international diplomacy, has recently been elected as the chairperson of the General Affairs Committee at the 112th session of the International Labour Conference (ILC). This prestigious appointment highlights his expertise and leadership in addressing important global issues related to labor rights and protections.

The ILC, consisting of delegates from 187 member states, is currently convening in Switzerland to tackle pressing matters such as worker safety in the face of climate change and biological hazards, the care economy, and fundamental labor principles. Additionally, the conference will select new members for the ILO Governing Body for the term of 2024-2027.

As the head of the General Affairs Committee, Aliabadi will play a key role in evaluating and reporting on important topics brought forth by the conference. One significant item on the agenda is the discussion around the potential abrogation of four international labor Conventions, a decision that will have far-reaching implications for global labor standards.
