Exit polls predict a big victory for an alliance led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s party for a third consecutive term. The counting of votes for India’s massive elections will begin today after a six-week-long voting period. The world will be watching the result of the mammoth seven-phase elections tomorrow.

Modi’s Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led alliance, known as the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), is poised to secure a two-thirds majority in the lower house of parliament, with a summary of five major exit polls projecting between 353 and 401 seats for the NDA. On the other hand, the opposition “INDIA” alliance led by Rahul Gandhi’s Congress party is projected to win between 125 and 182 seats.

Modi expressed gratitude for the record voter turnout and his likelihood of being re-elected. Meanwhile, the opposition remains optimistic and has dismissed the exit poll results.
