In anticipation of the elections, the BJP showcased their ‘Viksit Bharat’ campaign through their poll manifesto, aiming to achieve a developed India by 2047. This vision, championed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is more than just a slogan but a comprehensive plan for the nation’s progress.
The Modi government promoted ‘Viksit Bharat’ messages on Whatsapp, even during the Model Code of Conduct period, but was reprimanded by the Election Commission. Interestingly, the BJP had a similar development-focused campaign in 2004 called ‘India Shining’, which ultimately led to their defeat by the Congress.
As the 2024 elections approach, the Congress is focusing on job creation, quotas, and social inclusion, posing challenges for the BJP. Issues like unemployment and inflation, as well as promises to conduct a caste survey, have eroded the BJP’s OBC vote bank, threatening their social engineering strategy.
