Sri Lanka: Heavy rainfall causes floods and landslides, resulting in 15 deaths

Deadly Flooding and Landslides Hit Sri Lanka

At least 15 people have been killed and thousands displaced in Sri Lanka due to heavy rainfall causing flooding and landslides. Seven regions, including the capital Colombo, experienced record rainfall, triggering flash floods and landslides. The Disaster Management Centre warned of escalating flood risks as almost the entire country was affected.

Authorities confirmed 15 deaths, with homes damaged or destroyed. Schools were closed, and residents faced power outages as a precaution. The federal government mobilized the military for relief efforts, as more heavy rains were forecasted.
