Qatar Airways, Hajj operators dispute N296m ticket refund

Qatar Airways Under Fire for Alleged N296m Ticket Refund Controversy

Thirteen travel agencies are gearing up for a battle with Qatar Airways over the alleged refusal to implement a N296 million ticket refund since 2022. The controversy stems from the 2022 Hajj exercise, where intending pilgrims could not fly as planned due to visa issues.

The affected travel agents, including names such as Meeqat Travels and Tours, Fatimoh Olabisi Travels, and Al-Yusuf Travels, among others, paid a total of N296,282,147 for air tickets that were unused. Despite interventions from various authorities, including the National Association of Nigerian Travel Agencies and the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, Qatar Airways has reportedly been adamant over the refund.

The agents have resorted to legal action, demanding the immediate refund of the tickets’ money for their clients. One agent highlighted the airline’s reluctance to pay back the money without drastic measures such as picketing.

The affected agents are calling on the Federal Government to intervene and ensure that Qatar Airways fulfills its refund obligations. Further updates from the airline’s management in Doha are currently pending.
