The price of cooking gas in Nigeria is showing signs of a downward trend, with consumers across various states noting a decrease in costs. Previously, the average price of 1 kilogram of cooking gas reached as high as N1,300 between February and March, but it has now dropped to around N1,000 or even lower in some locations.

The relaxation in prices can be attributed to the rebound of the naira against the dollar, along with efforts made by the Nigerian government to increase the production and availability of domestically produced cooking gas. As a result, residents in different areas like Ogun, Lagos, Enugu, and Kwara have reported purchasing cooking gas at reduced prices compared to previous months.

Despite these positive developments, concerns have been raised by industry experts, such as the Nigerian Association of Liquefied Petroleum Gas Marketers, who fear that the prices might surge again due to the influence of foreign exchange rates. The government continues to work towards stabilizing the prices and ensuring a steady supply of affordable cooking gas to the local market.
