North Korea has announced the cessation of sending garbage-filled balloons across the border to South Korea, but warned that the practice would resume if activists from the South resumed flying anti-regime leaflets. North Korean Vice Minister of Defense Kim Kang Il stated that over 3,500 balloons carrying 15 tons of waste had been sent over the border from Tuesday to Sunday. Kim described the measures as “unpleasant” for South Korea, giving them a taste of the effort required to clean up the waste, and stated that Pyongyang would temporarily halt its actions.
