Microsoft has announced its largest investment in Sweden, committing 33.7 billion kronor ($3.2 billion) over two years towards cloud and artificial intelligence infrastructure. This investment includes training 250,000 individuals in AI by 2027 and expanding the capacity of its data centers in the country.

The company’s president, Brad Smith, highlighted Sweden’s forward-thinking energy policies that enable the use of green energy in these developments. With similar AI investments in other countries, Microsoft’s focus on Sweden includes providing over 20,000 GPUs for AI model training and expanding data center capacity in key locations.

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson expressed optimism about the investment’s potential to drive further development and pave the way for additional investments. However, Smith also acknowledged the risks associated with AI, particularly concerning the rise of Russian deepfakes, emphasizing the need for government intervention and industry capabilities to address these challenges.
