A hunting expedition turned tragic when Sunday Ijiola was accidentally shot and killed by his colleague, Atanda Agbobiado, during a hunting trip in a forest near Owode Ketu, Ogun State. The incident occurred on May 28, 2024, as a group of about fifteen hunters were pursuing a deer in the forest.
Atanda mistook Sunday for the prey they were chasing and fired the fatal shot. Sadly, Sunday passed away while being taken to the hospital. The suspect fled the scene, prompting a police investigation into the matter. The victim’s family demanded an autopsy.
This incident is not the first of its kind in the region, as another hunter was accidentally shot by fellow hunters in a separate incident in Odeda in April 2023. These unfortunate accidents serve as a reminder of the dangers associated with hunting activities.
The Ogun State Police Command is actively investigating both incidents to ensure justice is served and to prevent future tragedies. It is essential for hunters to prioritize safety and exercise caution to avoid such heartbreaking incidents.
