German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, and European Council President Charles Michel have backed the plan proposed by US President Joe Biden to cease hostilities between Hamas and Israel. Biden presented a comprehensive proposal aimed at achieving a lasting peace in Gaza and the release of all hostages.

“The Israeli offer, which President Biden reiterated and reaffirmed today, provides a glimpse of hope and a possible path out of the war’s deadlock,” said Baerbock.

Von der Leyen described the proposal as a significant opportunity to end the war and civilian suffering in Gaza, while Michel also expressed support for the ceasefire initiative.

Additionally, Palestinian movement Hamas welcomed Biden’s ceasefire proposal, emphasizing the importance of a temporary truce, hostage releases, and humanitarian aid.
