The Finnish Immigration Service has undergone a significant organizational restructuring to enhance its ability to adapt to changing security environments and align with the government’s objectives. This revamp, effective June 1, 2024, focuses on process management to streamline immigration procedures and ensure efficient application processing.

The new structure supports controlled immigration by implementing a process-based approach for handling permit categories while preventing abuse of the permit system. It also strengthens the agency’s preparedness for security changes and risk identification through enhanced contingency planning.

Director General Ilkka Haahtela emphasizes the importance of clarifying roles and responsibilities to meet established targets. The reorganization includes the establishment of the Control and Monitoring Department for post-decision monitoring of residence permits and managing permit withdrawals.

New department appointments have been made, with seasoned professionals leading various departments to drive operational efficiency and maintain robust security measures amidst evolving challenges. This comprehensive reform showcases the Finnish Immigration Service’s commitment to excellence and security enhancement.
