Former treasurer Josh Frydenberg has declined calls to make a comeback to politics at the next federal election, despite some Liberal MPs urging him to recontest his former seat of Kooyong. Reports suggested a push for Frydenberg to return, even though the Liberal Party had already chosen 31-year-old Amelia Hamer as their candidate for the inner Melbourne electorate.
Frydenberg reaffirmed his decision on social media, stating, “I am not rushing back to politics, my position on contesting the next election remains unchanged. I will continue to support the Liberal Party and our local candidate Amelia Hamer.”
Despite losing Kooyong in the previous election, Frydenberg’s possible return was advocated by former Liberal minister Karen Andrews. However, with the recent abolition of neighboring Higgins, the Liberals’ chances of regaining Kooyong may be boosted.
