The Eastern Cape government has activated disaster management teams to provide relief to communities affected by flooding, particularly in East London and Gqeberha.
Tragically, at least nine people lost their lives – seven in Gqeberha and two in East London – with others feared to have drowned during the devastating floods that struck the province on Sunday morning.
Reports indicate that over 2,000 individuals have had their homes destroyed in areas such as Duncan Village, Stoney Drift, Mzamomhle, and Mdantsane in East London.
