Due for release on Netflix this month, Sous la Seine (“Under the Seine”) tells the story of a killer shark targeting athletes at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. However, the film faces controversy as it is accused of plagiarizing French director Vincent Dietschy’s project, Silure.
One large fish still present in the Seine is the catfish, a key element in Dietschy’s screenplay. While harmless to humans, these catfish pose a threat to the ecosystem by preying on fish like pike and salmon, as well as birds and small mammals on the riverbanks.
