The Western Cape legislature will see two new political parties representing the province, while the DA retains its majority with 24 seats, and the ANC decreases from 12 to 8 seats in the opposition.
DA’s Tertuis Simmers expressed pride in retaining the majority, stating plans for communicating with residents. The ANC’s Khalid Sayed reflected on the loss of seats and the need to continue serving the province.
The EFF maintains 2 seats, while the GOOD party, FF Plus, Al-Jama-ah, and ACDP each keep one. The Patriotic Alliance (PA) secures three seats in its debut, impacting the DA’s support in the Western Cape.
Plans to expand the legislature were hindered by budget cuts, as all parties supported an increase in seats but were restricted by financial concerns.
