Amechi Uwani’s Kin Takes Enugu Govt to Rights Commission | The Guardian Nigeria News

Kindred and families of Amechi Uwani in Enugu South Local Council have sought help from the National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria to stop the indiscriminate demolition of their property by the Enugu State government. Led by Sir Richard Nnabuchi Nnamani, the community filed a petition through the Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) citing human rights violations.

The petition is in response to alleged injustices by the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) and certain police officers. The community claims that their homes are being demolished in violation of court orders related to the ‘Centenary City’ project. Private developers are accused of colluding with officials to unlawfully seize ancestral lands and structures.

The community has asked for an investigation into the violations, accountability of the perpetrators, restitution of seized lands, and protection for affected families. The National Human Rights Commission is urged to intervene and ensure justice for the Amechi Uwani kindred.
