Rust Belt Schools Object to Israel’s Gaza Conflict

Uncovering the Unseen: Student Protests Beyond the Coasts

The national conversation on student protests against Israel’s actions in Gaza has primarily focused on elite coastal campuses. However, the media has largely ignored the impactful protests in the Rust Belt and Appalachian regions. Contrary to the narrative of privileged student leaders, these protests have been led by working- and middle-class students.

While incidents at universities like Columbia and UCLA received significant attention, harsh crackdowns on student protesters at schools like City College of New York and Ohio State University went unnoticed. The brutal response by police, including arrests, tasering, and physical violence, has been widespread.

Despite claims of creating an unsafe environment, Jewish students have been actively involved in these protests, challenging stereotypes and asserting their dissent. These students are resilient in the face of adversity and continue to advocate for justice and humanity.

It’s time to acknowledge and appreciate the diversity and dedication of student protesters across the country, whose voices are often unheard in the mainstream media.
