Russia’s fresh barrage injures 19 in attack on Ukraine’s power grid

Russia launched a devastating drone and missile attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, causing injuries to at least 19 people, officials reported. The Ukrainian military successfully intercepted and downed a significant number of missiles and attack drones launched by Russia, despite sustaining damage to several regions across the country.

The attacks, part of a series targeting Ukraine’s power grid since March, resulted in the hospitalization of civilians, including children, and severe damage to energy plants. The ongoing disruption to the energy infrastructure has led to nationwide blackouts, with potential for worsened shortages in the coming months.

Ukrainian President Zelenskyy called for increased support from Western allies, emphasizing the urgent need for advanced air defense systems to protect civilians and critical infrastructure from further attacks.

Meanwhile, casualties were reported on both sides, with civilians dying in Ukrainian shelling in the Russian-occupied Donetsk region, and Russian forces claiming the downing of Ukrainian drones over its territory.

The escalating conflict underscores the urgent need for international intervention to prevent further violence and humanitarian crisis in the region.
