Fuel scarcity and blackout loom as NUPENG and PENGASSAN vow to join the strike
The Federal Government is urging Organized Labor to reconsider their decision to go on an indefinite strike starting June 3, 2024, due to the government’s refusal to increase the proposed minimum wage to N60,000. Emphasizing the need to prioritize the interests of the masses, the government stressed that industrial action is not the solution.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Idris Mohammed, stated that dialogues and negotiations, not strikes, are the way forward. Meanwhile, Organized Labor has declared a nationwide strike to protest the government’s stance on the minimum wage, starting on the mentioned date.
Various sectors, including power, oil, and gas, have vowed to join the strike, potentially leading to fuel shortages and power outages. Despite the government’s plea, labor unions are prepared to escalate the situation until their demands are met.
