BiH at Risk of EU Funds Drying Up Before Varhelyi’s Visit

The European Union’s Commissioner for Enlargement, Oliver Varhelyi, will be visiting Bosnia and Herzegovina to attend the high-level political forum. Bosnia and Herzegovina is facing challenges when it comes to fulfilling its obligations for reforms, particularly in adopting the budget. The country is also behind on submitting a list of reforms to the European Commission as part of the Growth Program for the Western Balkans.

The visit of Commissioner Varhelyi brings hopes of pushing the politicians in Bosnia and Herzegovina to take necessary steps towards fulfilling their commitments. However, there are concerns about the lack of progress and political disagreements that are hindering the adoption of the budget, which is crucial for accessing grant money from the EU.

Despite the challenges, there is still hope that Varhelyi’s visit could inspire the politicians to prioritize reforms and unlock much-needed funds for the country’s development. Analysts are cautious about the outcome of the visit, but there is a shared desire for Bosnia and Herzegovina to make significant progress towards EU integration and prosperity.
