Venezuela Condemns Caricom Declaration Regarding Essequibo
Venezuela claimed that Guyana had handed over its sovereignty to the United States and Exxon Mobil
Venezuela’s Foreign Ministry rejected Caricom’s statement on the Essequibo territory controlled by Guyana since 1899, which Venezuela claims as its own. Caracas accused Guyana of warmongering actions, backed by alliances with the US Southern Command, ExxonMobil, and the CIA.
Venezuela criticized Caricom for portraying it as an aggressor nation and violating agreements established in the Argyle Joint Declaration and Geneva Agreement of 1966. It also highlighted Guyana’s granting of oil exploitation licenses in disputed maritime spaces.
Nicaragua expressed support for Venezuela in the Essequibo controversy, condemning imperialist actions and reaffirming Venezuela’s right to preserve its sovereignty. The country called for respect for ancestral territories and emphasized the legacy of liberators like Simón Bolívar.
