BANGKOK (AP) — Tin Oo, a key figure in Myanmar’s political history, has passed away at the age of 97. As a close associate of Aung San Suu Kyi and co-founder of the National League for Democracy party, Tin Oo played an integral role in the country’s fight for democracy.
He passed away on Saturday at Yangon General Hospital after battling various health issues. Tin Oo’s legacy dates back to 1988 when he helped establish the NLD with Suu Kyi following a failed rebellion against military rule. Despite facing years of house arrest and imprisonment, he remained committed to the party’s ideals.
His dedication to the NLD continued throughout his life, with Tin Oo often seen at rallies and supporting Suu Kyi in her political campaigns. His military background added a unique perspective to his role in the party, showcasing his diverse experiences in Myanmar’s tumultuous political landscape.
