Rivers State Police Command has arrested a suspect, Emeka, for the alleged rape and death of a pregnant woman, Mrs Chigbewejim Steward. The victim was reportedly raped to death by Emeka and his gang in Abarikpo community, Ahoada East Local Government Area.
Emeka had a dispute with the deceased before leading his gang to abduct her from her home where she was raped to death. The husband of the deceased confirmed the arrest of Emeka and called for justice in the matter.
The suspect fled the community but was apprehended 15 months later. The police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, stated that investigations are ongoing and the case will be transferred to the State Criminal Intelligence and Investigation Department.
The tragic incident took place in February 2023, leaving the community in shock. The deceased, who was five months pregnant, was found with multiple bruises and bleeding. Her husband recounted the harrowing experience and urged the government to ensure justice prevails.
