Narendra Modi poised for decisive victory in India election, exit polls indicate

Exit polls in India are predicting a strong victory for the BJP, with three out of five polls suggesting they could win more than the 303 seats they secured in 2019. Conversely, the opposition “INDIA” alliance, led by Rahul Gandhi’s Congress party, is projected to win between 125 and 182 seats.

While exit polls are not always accurate in India, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed confidence in a victory after voting ended. Modi criticized the opposition alliance, calling them “casteist, communal, and corrupt.”

The Election Commission will count votes on June 4, with results expected the same day. A victory for Modi would mark his third consecutive term, making him only the second prime minister in India’s history to achieve this.

Market analysts believe that the exit poll results have reduced uncertainty and signaled continuity in Modi’s economic policies, leading to optimism in the markets.
