Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, has called for a political solution to the ongoing detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra. This call comes in the wake of the recent violence in Aba, Abia State during a sit-at-home protest organized by IPOB.
Atiku condemned the killing of soldiers and civilians during the unrest and emphasized the need for a political resolution to Kanu’s situation, stating that it could help ease tensions in the region. He also expressed concern for students affected by the disturbances, particularly those writing their WAEC examinations.
In response to the killings, the Military High Command has promised to bring overwhelming military pressure on IPOB. The Director of Defence Media Operations vowed to respond fiercely to the attacks and ensure the defeat of the group responsible for the violence.
