UN accuses ‘Israel’ of hindering Gaza food access

The UN has criticized Israeli authorities for hindering food supplies to Gaza, a violation of international law. UN OCHA spokesperson Jens Laerke emphasized the importance of humanitarian aid reaching Gaza’s residents, pointing out the significant obstacles in place. He called on Tel Aviv to ease the entry of aid into the besieged territory, stressing that their legal obligations extend beyond borders and crossings.

The Gaza government’s media office also raised concerns about worsening shortages of essential goods, warning of an impending humanitarian crisis including famine and lack of clean water and medicine. The continuous closure of crossings by the Israeli army for 24 days has exacerbated these challenges, leading to a real famine in Gaza. The situation has been described as a form of genocide by the Israeli Occupation, further underscoring the urgency of addressing the humanitarian needs of the people in Gaza.
