In a historic turn of events, former US President Donald Trump was convicted of a crime in New York on Thursday. The jury found him guilty of falsifying documents to conceal a payment made to a porn star before the 2016 election. This makes Trump the first US president to face such a conviction.
Despite Trump’s denial of any wrongdoing, the 12-member jury unanimously convicted him on all 34 felony counts. The sentencing is scheduled for July 11, just days before the Republican Party’s nomination for the upcoming election.
Although the crime carries a maximum sentence of four years in prison, Trump will not be jailed before the sentencing. His attorney plans to appeal the decision swiftly. Trump, remaining defiant, stated to reporters that the true verdict will be decided by the people on November 5.
