KZN police urge calm as IEC readies results: No room for bad losers

As South Africa eagerly awaits the release of the national general election results, police officials in KwaZulu-Natal are calling for calm and urging political leaders to act responsibly in the face of potential unrest. The announcement is scheduled for Sunday at the Durban International Convention Centre.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, warned against resorting to violence to express dissatisfaction with the election outcomes. He emphasized the importance of upholding the principles of democracy and called on political parties to utilize legal methods to address grievances.

Mkhwanazi also addressed concerns of potential violence following the formation of former President Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, highlighting the need for peaceful coexistence among supporters of different political groups.

Despite some challenges during the election process, law enforcement agencies are prepared to maintain peace and stability in KwaZulu-Natal. The focus remains on ensuring a smooth transition following the release of the election results.

Let’s embrace democracy and respect the rule of law as we await the outcome of the elections.
