The United Nations Addresses the Continued Economic Measures Against Syria
During the UN General Assembly meeting on the situation in the Middle East, Iran’s Permanent Representative, Amir Saeed Iravani, emphasized the detrimental impact of unilateral coercive economic measures on the Syrian people. He stressed the need for efforts to combat terrorist organizations while prioritizing the protection of civilians. Iravani reiterated Iran’s commitment to supporting the Syrian-led political process and assisting in the country’s reconstruction efforts.
He highlighted the economic challenges faced by the Syrian population after years of conflict and emphasized the importance of humanitarian aid delivery. Iravani welcomed the extension of UN mandate for humanitarian access through specific border crossings and called for unhindered coordination with the Syrian government for rebuilding infrastructure and facilitating safe return of displaced persons.
The Iranian representative urged against politicizing humanitarian efforts and emphasized the need to focus on alleviating the suffering of the most vulnerable in Syrian society. The UN’s continued support and collaboration in addressing the challenges faced by the Syrian people were emphasized during the meeting.
