Government ‘failed’ to enforce abuse case judgment.

Rights campaigner Louise O’Keeffe, a victim of child sexual abuse in State-run schools, is calling out successive governments for failing to fully implement the European Court of Human Rights judgment in her favor from over a decade ago. Along with the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission, she is pushing for enhanced supervision on the Government to ensure appropriate redress for abuse victims.

O’Keeffe challenges the Government’s claim of compliance, stating that existing schemes are too restrictive, leaving many victims unable to access them. Despite receiving apologies and compensation after her legal battle, she continues to fight for justice for other victims.

Now, O’Keeffe is in Strasbourg to advocate for change and proper redress schemes, backed by the Irish Human Rights and Equality Commission. Despite setbacks, she remains resolute in her mission for justice and accountability.

As the Council of Europe weighs in on the issue, the pressure is mounting on the Government to address the long-standing injustices faced by survivors of child sexual abuse in State-run schools.
