Flu vaccine rates drop 10% from last year, sparking concerns of GP fallout.

The flu vaccination rates have dropped significantly compared to last year, with only 21.8% of Australians getting the flu shot by May 19. This is a 10% decrease from the previous year, indicating a concerning trend in low vaccination uptake. In New South Wales, cases of influenza have surged, with 29,000 confirmed cases this year. Surprisingly, vaccination rates are particularly low among children under five, despite being eligible for a free flu jab in all states. The Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) attributes part of the drop in vaccination rates to fewer people visiting their General Practitioner. Rising cost of living pressures and limited access to free flu shots in certain states are also contributing factors to the decline in vaccination rates.
