BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 31. Russian Defense Minister Andrey Belousov expressed concerns at the CSTO meeting in Almaty, Kazakhstan, regarding NATO and the EU’s aggressive approach towards Russia, which is escalating tensions in Georgia and affecting Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
Belousov highlighted that certain NATO countries are strengthening their presence in the Caucasus to access resources from the Caspian Sea and extend influence into Central Asia.
Notably, he mentioned the destabilization caused by protests in Georgia, funded to incite anti-Russian sentiments. Additionally, Belousov criticized the imposition of Western-mediated peace talks between Armenia and Azerbaijan, warning against signing treaties under Western pressure.
These statements shed light on the complexities within the region, emphasizing the need for a balanced approach to maintain peace and stability.
