Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan & supporters protest at Yerevan Republic Square

The Tavush for the Homeland movement, led by Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan, initiated a civil disobedience action at Republic Square in Yerevan. Police forces have barricaded the area around the main government building, anticipating a protest scheduled for Thursday morning.

Archbishop Galstanyan called for supporters to drive to the square and march towards the government building. If prevented by police, they were asked to continue on foot. The movement aims to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, following border delimitation talks with Azerbaijan in Tavush Province.

The protests, sparked by the agreement with Azerbaijan, gained momentum as Archbishop Galstanyan led a march from Tavush to Yerevan, challenging PM Pashinyan’s leadership. The movement seeks to disrupt governmental proceedings, with a Cabinet meeting scheduled for the same day.

As tensions rise in Armenia’s capital, the civil disobedience actions underscore the movement’s determination to bring about political change and hold the country’s leaders accountable.
