The U.S. Coast Guard recently offloaded a staggering $468 million worth of confiscated cocaine in San Diego, California, totaling nearly 34,000 pounds of illicit drugs. This haul was the result of intercepting eight suspected drug smuggling vessels off the coasts of Mexico and Central and South America in February and March, according to the Coast Guard Cutter Munro.
Highlighting the dedication of the crew, Captain Rula Deisher commended their hard work in seizing the cocaine, emphasizing the importance of preventing illegal drugs from reaching the streets. This massive operation is a part of ongoing efforts to secure national security and combat drug trafficking.
The latest offload is the largest since the seizure of 33,200 pounds of cocaine and 12,400 pounds of marijuana in October, underlining the Coast Guard’s vigilance in intercepting maritime smuggling. Vice Adm. Kevin Lunday emphasized the teamwork with allies and international partners to protect the United States from the dangers of illegal drugs.
