Umahi refutes NUJ claims of walking out on Tinubu

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Federal Capital Territory Council, has urged President Bola Tinubu to intervene and caution Minister of Works and Housing, David Umahi, for his disrespect towards journalists. Umahi had walked out on over 40 journalists during a news conference, dismissing their presence despite their scheduled attendance at the event. The NUJ expressed disappointment in Umahi’s behavior and called for civility and respect towards the media.

In response, Umahi denied walking out on journalists, citing his need to catch a flight as the reason for rescheduling the meeting. He acknowledged the crucial role of the media in reporting on government activities and emphasized his appreciation for their support. Despite the denial, the NUJ reiterated the importance of holding government officials accountable and demanded respect for journalists.

The incident highlights the ongoing tensions between government officials and the media, emphasizing the need for mutual respect and cooperation in fulfilling their respective roles.
