Slovak PM Fico released from hospital post-shooting.

Slovak PM Fico released from hospital post-shooting.

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has made a remarkable recovery and has been discharged from the hospital just over two weeks after surviving an assassination attempt. He was shot five times by a gunman in Handlova, leaving him in critical condition. After undergoing extensive surgeries in Banska Bystrica, he has now been released and taken to his apartment in Bratislava.

The attacker, identified as Juraj C, has been charged with premeditated murder but claimed he only wanted to hurt Fico due to disagreements with government policies. Fico, who has faced criticism for his pro-Russian stance and controversial reforms, has a history of adjusting his positions depending on public opinion.

This incident has highlighted deep political divisions in Slovak society, especially in the aftermath of mass protests in 2018 following the contract killing of journalist Jan Kuciak. Despite ongoing tensions, Fico’s return to health signals a new chapter in his political career.
