Former Paraguayan President Lugo not returning to politics
Former Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo, who recently celebrated his 73rd birthday, shared in a radio interview that while he is feeling well after a health scare in 2022, he has decided not to return to politics. Lugo, who spent over 6 months recovering from a brain stroke in Buenos Aires, expressed that he is tired and unfit for the political arena. Despite staying connected with the people, he believes the current political environment is different and he is ready to focus on living his life.
Lugo’s personal physician, Jorge Querey, also advised him to steer clear of politics post his recovery. Lugo, known for breaking the National Republican Association’s continuous rule, holds the unique distinction of interrupting the party’s long-standing dominance in Paraguay’s political landscape. With a background in Religious Sciences and Sociology, Lugo’s political career has been eventful, serving as Paraguay’s president from 2008 to 2012 and later as a National Senator.
